Long time players will remember the Zombie Madness structure deck, this took zombies from a laughable type to a force to be reckoned with. They were powerful for a long time but they’ve since become outdated. Fortunately, Konami have combated this by releasing quite a few new cards, giving the zombie type the tools they need to be a bit more viable. Of course, they’re still nowhere near their previous success but the strategies you can make are really fun to use. So if you’re planning on making a zombie deck or curious to see what the best zombie type monsters in Yugioh are, check out this list!
10. Pain Painter
The go-to tuner monster for all of your zombie synchro needs. Pain Painter is simply a better version of Plaguespreader Zombie, giving you a lot more options for what you want to summon. In all fairness, monsters who have their level changed by Pain Painter’s effect can only be using for a synchro summon of a zombie type monster, which is disappointing and the main reason why it isn’t any higher on the list.
9. Number 23: Lancelot, Dark Knight of the Underworld
Reading the effect, you’d think this card would be much higher up on the list. While it’s certainly a powerful ally once its on the field, getting it there is troublesome. It requires two level 8 monsters and lets be honest, there’s a great many options you’d choose over this.
Enough with the insulting anyway, there’s a reason this card made the list in the first place. It’s one of the few cards on the list that can make it into literally any deck, so long as they utilise level 8 monsters. Although it has a low ATK stat for its rank, it can still turn the tide of a game if used correctly.
8. Ghost Charon, the Underworld Boatman
Any kind of level 2 tuner has some usage, this one in particular is hugely effective, giving you the option of getting a Dragon synchro monster easily. It does look quite situational but in certain decks, it’ll fit like a glove and provide a huge boost to the deck’s performances.
7. Pumprincess the Princess of Ghosts
How have I never seen this before?! I’ve only just found it while researching items for the list and oh boy do I need this card!
It’ll work perfectly with any kind of stall deck, your opponent’s monsters will be losing up to 1000 ATK and DEF after just 5 of your turns. Imagine having 3 of these on at the same time, that’s insane. While it’s almost certainly a useless card in anything other than a stall deck, it’s just so damn good defensively that it had to be on the list!
6. Number 45: Crumble Logos the Prophet of Demolition
Easy to summon, high ATK and an absurd effect. This number monster is definitely one of the best zombies in the entirety of Yugioh, it’s likely the best rank 2 XYZ monster too. Its requirements aren’t type specific so it’ll work with any deck that contains level 2 monsters. Amazingly, its effect works on any face-up card, allowing you to negate pesky effects from field spells or continuous spells/traps. You should really get at least one of these cards if you have any decks that can summon it!
5. Crimson Knight Vampire Bram
Crimson Knight Vampire Bram can be difficult to summon as it requires two level 5 zombie type monsters but if you have a zombie deck with a few level 5 monsters, it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle. Prepare to be hated by your opponent as you summon their best cards from their own graveyard, laugh maniacally as your opponents futile attempts to remove it from the field are foiled, as it comes back the next turn. It’ll only fit in zombie decks, which is why it doesn’t break into the top 3 of the list, but it’s still an amazing zombie type monster.
4. Scapeghost
I used this card for months before I realised it’s a tuner monster. Ever since I made such a ridiculous discovery, Scapeghost has been ample part of many of my strategies. If its attacked, you get up to 4 tokens, ready to be tributed. If it isn’t attacked, you can flip it for up to 4 tokens, ready to tributed or used as synchro materials. It really is an amazing card, capable of fitting into a variety of decks.
3. Chewbone
This card as in absolute godsend for chain burn decks. Ojama Trio does the same job but it takes up a spell/trap zone slot, Chewbone is the new hero of the horrific “OTK without ever attacking” type of decks. I’m not going to describe every single strategy, there’s simply too many. I’m sure the first time you saw this card, you immediately recognised a myriad of uses for it!
2. Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring
How many decks rely on sending cards from their deck to their hand, field or graveyard? So many, like, almost all. This monsters helps to relieve your pains, preventing one of those effects, which can severely screw over your opponent’s plans. It’s also a tuner monster and we all know how useful they are. The fire attribute can be a bit off-putting as it’s always nice to have a more “useful” attribute (such as Light/Dark for the likes of Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning). It’s definitely one of the best zombie type monsters in the game!
1. Sea Monster of Theseus
When this card was first teased, many thought it’d completely break the game. Prices skyrocketed, it quickly became a powerful asset to have in your arsenal. Then came the Link format, suddenly this monster isn’t as good as it used to be. But still, it’s by far the best zombie type monster in the game. An easily accessible level 5 tuner will always be highly sought after and it’s much relevant meta wise than any other zombie monster!
