We are so lucky to live in the golden era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It all officially started in 2008 with the release of Iron Man, a ground-breaking movie that introduced us to the true wonders of the Marvel Universe, when adapted correctly to the big screen of course.
Since then, plenty of other superheroes have been introduced and even had their own origin stories. The Avengers movie, released in 2012, changed the game with a staggering 1.5 billion dollars earned. More and more superheroes have hit the scene, there’s so many now that the newest installment “Infinity War” is almost too star-studded.
I have seen Infinity War and let me tell you it’s one of, if not the greatest MCU film to date. This list ranks the best superheroes in the MCU with absolutely no Infinity War spoilers. Power levels are taken from around the end of Thor: Ragnarok. There may be a few spoilers if you haven’t seen Ragnarok or Civil War!
10. War Machine
Guns, lots of guns. War Machine does exactly what he says on the tin, raining hell-fire upon anyone unfortunate enough to get on his naughty list. Colonel Rhodes is just a normal human under the suit though and he’s yet to massively upgrade his suit, unlike another superhero appearing on the list. Don’t get me wrong, War Machine is still a force to be reckoned with but the others on this list are stronger.
We’ve yet to see Peter Parker utilise his suit’s full capabilities but when he does (hopefully in the next Spider-Man movie!), I’m sure his ranking on this list will increase. As of right now, he still kind of mucks around during a fight, taking time to enjoy the awesomeness of the situation he’s in or come out with a funny remark. Enhanced strength and reflexes make him a formidable hand-to-hand fighter and his web-shooting capabilities grant extreme mobility.
8. Black Panther
T’Challa or Black Panther is a man with great morals, super-human powers and an indestructible suit. Made of Vibranium, even extra-terrestrial enemies will struggle to bypass his defenses. Armed with Vibranium claws, masterful martial arts abilities and high intelligence, Black Panther has been done justice by the big screen. We’ll see his part in the upcoming movies increase as Wakanda is ready to show itself to the world.
7. Captain America
The first Avenger, pretty much the assault-rifle of the Avengers, there’s not a situation he can’t excel in. Strong, intelligent, brave and loyal to a fault, Steve Rodgers is arguably one of the most important Avengers without being the greatest in a fight. He does what he knows is right for his country and for the world, no matter the cost. Wearing that hulking suit of armor and being effective with any weapon he can get his hands on, Captain America should be the first on any crime scene.
6. Dr Strange
One of the things I’ve been wondering and I’m sure you have too, is the full extent of Dr Strange’s powers. We know he’s prone to keeping things under-wraps with his humility and right now, he’s a strong superhero for sure but just how strong is he?
In his origin story, we see him warp the very fabric of space and time. Dr Strange himself knows how dangerous this can be so he must be limiting himself. I dare say it’s impossible to defeat him but if anyone can, it’s those up next on this list..
Like Dr Strange, Vision shows restraint when exercising his powers. That Mind Stone in his head bears the power of an Infinity Stone, which was required to actually create Vision. He still doesn’t fully understand it, maybe he never will. For now, we can see him walk through walls, ignoring the physical properties completely. A weakness to magic makes him vulnerable to certain superheroes but only in a “defeated” sense, it really isn’t possible to kill Vision while the Mind Stone is still glued to his head.
4. Iron Man
Obviously, Tony Stark is intelligent enough to bring the exact type of suit he needs to any fight. With a plethora of suits and armaments available, there’s no situation that Tony can’t overcome, as we saw against the Hulk in Age of Ultron. Efficiency and effectiveness is what Stark encapsulates, creating perfectly optimised suits with a variety of weapons and tools at his disposal. Even the basic Iron Man suit is stronger than most other heroes in the MCU!
3. Scarlet Witch
Killing isn’t her thing but Scarlet Witch has shown exceedingly strong powers in her short time in the MCU. If any superhero prior to this entry even tried to fight her, she’d simply do what she did to Vision in Civil War. Her telekinetic and mind-control powers would be devastating in the hands of a supervillain so the Avengers have to be thankful she’s on their side.
2. The Hulk
Sure, the Hulk lost to Iron Man in Civil War. Can we call that completely fair though? Stark had a suit specifically created for the Hulk but in terms of the variety of enemies they can face, Hulk is just that bit more effective. He could have almost certainly took down Surtur, something no one before him on this list would even bother trying. Unparalleled strength, invincibility and an anger like no other, the Hulk is terrifying to behold for heroes and villains alike!
Thor is a little bit OP right now, he was arguably top of the list before Thor: Ragnarok but now, oh boy is he miles ahead. Seemingly invincible with extreme strength is crazy when he had his hammer but now he’s mastered his true powers, no other superhero can topple him on this list. Maybe we’ll see future superheroes introduced that can match his might but that’s doubtful.
Thor’s journey of self-discovery has led to him not only developing his fighting prowess but his leadership has also been greatly increased. Humility and power rarely work hand-in-hand but Thor embraces them both.
