Hogwarts Legacy Holds the Guinness World Record for Being the Most Watched Video Game Ever

Just two weeks after the release of the game, Hogwarts Legacy’s legacies are on a roll. After topping Steam’s Top 5 Video Game Best Sellers, the newest fantasy role-playing game has made it into the Guinness World Record for being the most-watched single-player video game of all time on Twitch, a famous gaming content streaming platform, with 1,280,000 viewers!

Quite ironically, the viewership rating reached its peak during the three-day pre-release edition (February 7 to 10) even after Hogwarts Legacy had been singled out for a boycott protest since its plans for development were confirmed in 2020. Due to Harry Potter’s author J.K Rowling’s controversial anti-trans and homophobic stances, the #HogwartsLegacyBoycott trended on many social media platforms and made the future of the game rather shaky before its release.

Hogwarts Legacy is a fantasy role-playing game set in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a century before Harry Potter’s time. It follows a 5th-year student’s magical quests to investigate a goblin’s rebellion. Like in Harry Potter, the game content depends on which house you pick — Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Players are free to roam the Hogwarts’ grounds which hide many secrets, a lot of which are yet to be uncovered. As of now, Hogwarts Legacy quests are played in a single-player mode, but a multiplayer mode might soon be available, thanks to HogWarp

Hogwarts Legacy remains to be in the top 5 of The Most Watched Games on Twitch alongside popular games like:

The fantasy game also made many famous Twitch streamers earn thousands just in ad revenue a day after the game’s launch. As of February 2023, Hogwarts Legacy’s top 3 Twitch streamers with the most earnings are:

  1. Fextralife
  2. y4splz
  3. NICKMERCS
